Cover event from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Friday, February 17. Deadline is 4 p.m.
Materials Provided: None. Students should bring their own laptops and AP stylebook. If a student does not have a laptop, email pthomps1@olemiss.edu to discuss options.
Participant Instructions: Contestants will cover the panel session titled “Assault on the Media,” from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Friday, February 17, in the Overby Center auditorium. Contestants are free to question panelists and members of the audience during the panel and after the conference. Bios of all the panelists will be included in the conference program.
Deadline: Email an article of 550-650 words to
sejc2017@olemiss.edu
no later than 4 p.m. Friday. BE SURE TO PUT YOUR CONTESTANT NUMBER AT THE TOP OF THE ARTICLE.
Entries that are not time-stamped by 4 p.m. will be disqualified.
Judging criteria: Quality of lead; accuracy, including spelling of names; clarity; organization; overall writing quality; overall reporting quality; spelling, punctuation and grammar; quality of quotes; AP style; and editing for typos, word drops or similar mistakes.
Submission Guidelines: Put only your assigned number, not your name or university, at the top of your story. The subject line of the email should say: SEJC News Writing.
