Exercise: Contestants must be able to cover an event that starts at 6 p.m. on Thursday evening.
Contestants will attend a special Thacker Mountain Radio performance that is part of the kickoff for this year’s Oxford Film Festival. Students will cover the red carpet Oxford Film Festival event, Thacker Mountain Radio, and the screening of the film Strange Weather.
Contestants are required to meet at the Farley Hall SEJC registration desk at 5 p.m. on Feb. 16, OR to meet the group at The Lyric theater no later than 5:30 p.m. We will have credentials and tickets for contestants covering the event.
Assignment: Contestants have until midnight Thursday to write a 550-650-word article about the events.
Submission: Students must email a final copy of their story to The file should not include the contestant’s name, only the assigned contestant number on the top of the story. The subject line of the contestant entry should include the contest title and contestant number. Only entries received by the assigned deadline will qualify for evaluation.
Judging criteria: Quality of lead; overall clarity; reader appeal; quality of writing; quality of reporting; accuracy, including spelling of names; organization; spelling, punctuation and grammar; quality of quotes; AP style; editing for typos, word drops or similar mistakes; and adherence to deadline
